March had barely entered the chat when the hype for summer was rising just like the heat off the pavement in the middle of July. I think as soon as that first wisp of winter air tickles our noses as a majority we immediately start salivating at the thought of summer's arrival. Not me, I am a certified winter freak. If Punxsutawney Phil knew what was right for him he would have claimed six more weeks of winter. I solemnly swear that I am not a disliker of summer, not even a little. I would go as far as to say I am a worshipper of the sun. Being born in August I am a certified summer baby. I just happen to thrive in subzero temps. The duality of Pam.

I can understand that I am in a small camp, especially in New England. The average New Englander hates a lot of things about winter but I think they hate shoveling the most, at least that is the number one complaint I hear from most people. I promise I will not be using this as an attempt to convince you to love winter. After this sentence there isn’t even a mention of winter, I’ll save that for next year! We are here to cosplay as haters of winter and to indoctrinate ourselves into the cult of endless summer. So let us join proverbial hands and rejoice in the impending end of winter. And to celebrate the closing of one season's chapter I have compiled a collection of cabins that scream summer.

Picture it, the dog days of summer are in full swing. It is peak heat and humid as heck outside but that is no sweat off your back because you booked a long weekend at one of the following getaways. Any goon can bask in the cool air of the AC but not you, why is that? Well for starters a few of these places don’t have AC, don’t need it with the crispy air flowing in off the water. And that's the ticket right there, you are near water. Cool and refreshing water. Each one of these stays has either direct access or is a short jaunt from a natural body of water.

Vermont Lake House
Lake Saint Catherine, Vermont

The Guest House
Deering, New Hampshire
Being one of two seasonal cabins on the list, the guest house was quite literally made for summer. Tucked away on 15 acres of Audubon Land, you will feel hugged by nature and many miles away from the real world. The lack of wifi will certainly assist in that departure! The lush green landscape is easily enjoyed from practically every inch but perhaps best from the classic screen porch. The symphony of summer is the soundtrack and the view is the feature film. Take a kayak out with a picnic lunch for the ultimate summer day, wash it all down with a refreshing dip in the untamed beauty of this remote escape.
Maine Lake House
Weld, Maine
Located on the banks of Webb Lake, this camp has everything to offer for a summer getaway. After making breakfast on the deck head out for a morning paddle or perhaps just sit on the dock and let the loons serenade you while you enjoy your coffee. I can see this becoming a yearly tradition for any group, family or friends. Not only is it decorated to feel like it has been in the family for generations, it is set up with a scout camp vibe. While the kids are sleeping in hammocks on the boat house, keep the big house for yourself or crash in the bunkhouse, either way be sure to make plans for brekkie on the deck!

There really is nothing quite like a cottage by the sea. Snuggled away but still a stone's throw from downtown, this 1920’s fisherman’s cottage is a summer dream. The town of Port Jeff is a bustling summer destination with everything we’ve grown to love about an East Coast beach town. Seafood restaurants, salt water taffy, seafaring museums and schooner tours of the sound. When you’ve made your way back via a short walk from town, chill out by the open air stone hearth. A truly unique experience!
Monett Bay
Lake of Bays, Ontario
The Muskoka region of Ontario is known for its many lakes, sitting pretty on one of those lakes is a three season cottage awaiting your arrival. Giant lake facing windows allow for the outdoors to be apart of the interior while you relax by the wood stove. Enjoy direct lake access from the dock and tool around the lake, breaking only for snacks and perhaps a dip in the cool water. This charming little home will be a great place to spend a few nights to watch Spring come alive or Summer fade into Fall.
